The 20th century brought about dramatic changes in the way we live. The tin bath in front of the fire, the mangle in the out-house, toilets in the garden, horses and carts, deliveries by the coalman, a clip round the ear from the local bobby and marbles in the street were all consigned to history.

The 20th century brought about dramatic changes in the way we live. The tin bath in front of the fire, the mangle in the out-house, toilets in the garden, horses and carts, deliveries by the coalman, a clip round the ear from the local bobby and marbles in the street were all consigned to history.

This was also the first full century to be recorded on film, and Tamworth is particularly fortunate that a handful of enthusiastic amateur local cameramen have left us a wealth of unique archive film of the town from the 1920s right through to the 1980s.

It shows the huge changes that have taken place here, records important public events and gives us an insight into the everyday lives of the people who lived here.

This was also the first century to be chronicled in detail by the Tamworth Herald and the DVD combines histric articles from the newspaper with the archive film to paint an absolutely fascinating picture of life in Tamworth in the 1920s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s.

This is a unique opportunity to look back at the way we were, to reminisce to marvel at how things have changed and to give children and grandchildren a glimpse into ‘the good old days’.
